Cavco’s Grande Arbor Home Featured in MHInsider Magazine
MHInsider highlights Cavco’s chassis-free manufactured home and its new approach to multigenerational living at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Cavco’s latest housing innovation is getting national industry attention as the 2026 Innovative Housing Showcase gets underway in Washington, D.C.
MHInsider featured Cavco and the new Grande Arbor in its coverage of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Innovative Housing Showcase, taking place Sept. 22–24 on the National Mall.
The annual event brings together homebuilders, policymakers, housing industry leaders and the public to explore new approaches to housing affordability, construction and design. This year’s “Made in America” showcase includes full-scale manufactured, modular and 3D-printed homes from companies across the country.
For Cavco, that innovation is represented by the Grande Arbor.

A New Approach to Manufactured Home Design
Part of Cavco’s Studio Collection, the Grande Arbor was designed around a growing need in American housing: creating one home that can comfortably work for multiple generations.
The home features two primary suites positioned at opposite ends of the floor plan. Between them, a shared kitchen, dining area and living space bring the household together while allowing each side of the home to maintain a greater degree of privacy.
That flexibility comes as multigenerational living continues to grow. According to a 2026 Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data, 22% of Americans lived in multigenerational households in 2024, up from 13% in 1970.
The Grande Arbor also represents a significant change in how manufactured homes can be designed and installed.
The home displayed in Washington is the first HUD Code manufactured home home built without the permanent steel chassis. The chassis-free design allows the home to sit lower to the ground, enhancing curb appeal while creating new possibilities for floor plan design and multistory homes, neighborhood integration and placement.
Innovation on the National Mall
MHInsider highlighted the Grande Arbor as an example of the design possibilities emerging in manufactured housing.
The publication also noted the role Cavco’s Rocky Mount, Virginia, team played in bringing the Grande Arbor to life. It’s the same homebuilding facility that produced Cavco’s Anthem series, including the first nationally available HUD-approved manufactured duplex showcased in Washington in 2023.
Cavco President and CEO Bill Boor said events like the Innovative Housing Showcase give policymakers and the public an opportunity to experience these innovations firsthand.
“Policymakers and others can see for themselves the homes we are developing to meet buyers’ needs while keeping prices affordable. The Grande Arbor does both, and we’re proud to showcase it this year.”
The 2026 Innovative Housing Showcase is hosted by HUD and runs Sept. 22–24 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The event is free and open to the public.
